I am a Black Queer cis gender woman who has always had a passion for service. Over the course of my life, I have essentially been in all predominantly white spaces, oftentimes, being the only  Black person in the room (the town I grew up in was, at that time, 93% white). I am incredibly grateful for the privileges and lessons my upbringing has afforded me.

With this gratitude, I also realize the impact this had on the little Black girl who also had to navigate spaces that reminded myself that I was “lucky” to be there. As that little girl grew into a woman, I realized – perhaps even remembered – that every space is my place.

The little girl still lives within me, and serves to remind me of my power and place in the world.

I remembered to
·      take up space, rather than shrink my presence,
·      own my voice,
·      claim my purpose and role in the world
·      let go what others think of me, so that I can
·      live an authentic life
